It is known that many students have difficulties with the concept of absolute value when solving equations and inequalities. We will observe a few textbook descriptions and suggested methods of solving absolute value equations and inequalities. Next we will discuss an alternate way to present the solving of absolute value equations and inequalities. Students were asked report their understanding and work some exercises involving absolute value equations and inequalities. The students’ responses will be shared concerning their understanding of these absolute value concepts.
